What is the difference between ball valves, gate valves and globe valves?

Time: 2020-07-23
Summary: Valves are used to control the flow of liquid and gas. Ball valves, gate valves and globe valves are used to control fluid flow. These various forms of valves are used to create waterways, so understanding these differences and their USES is critical.

一、Ball valve is introduced

Ball valves made of sturdy components provide high durability and function perfectly even after long periods of idling. It has a sphere made of brass, stainless steel or chrome-plated brass, embedded in a conduit. The top of the sphere is a lever that can only swing a quarter of a circle. When the level plane is parallel to the pipe, the sphere allows water to flow. When the lever is perpendicular to the pipe, the solid ball stops the flow of water. The flow of water is controlled by moving the joystick from 0 degrees to 90 degrees from the Angle of the pipe to which it is connected.

On the other hand, you can move the water portion through the pipe by holding the lever between the two limits, but the pipe may be distorted due to water pressure.

The advantage of this valve is that you can open and close it easily and quickly. However, the water will hammer away at the sides of the body and pipe until it is fully open to guide the water.

二、Globe valve introduction

Globe valves are wheel-based valves that, when opened, reduce the flow of water through the pipe through a set of fixed ring mounts fixed in a spherical body. Globe valves contain a spherical region divided in half by an opening forming a seat. On the seat the stopper may be tightened with a runner that controls the flow of water or stops the flow completely.

Whether the globe valve is open or closed, especially when partially open, is difficult to understand. In addition, it cannot operate as a ball valve with one hand.

三、Gate valve is introduced

Gate valves are used to control the flow of liquid, usually by turning wheels and moving the gate valve up and down. When the wheel turns the lock down, the water wheel reaches its lowest position. It stops the flow of water. When operating the wheel in reverse, the gate is in the highest position and the water flows unimpeded.

It is easy to see where the gate valve is by looking at the rising stem as part of the gate valve. If the stem is rising and visible, the gate valve is open; When the stem is not visible, the gate valve is closed.

Gate valves are in contact with flowing water and are therefore vulnerable to corrosion, subsequent failure and eventual rupture. Because of its slowness, the chance of a water hammer is negligible. It should be used in open or closed conditions and may be damaged by water pressure and vibration if improperly retained.
